Abstract:
This study investigated preschool and primary school aged children's images and stories when making two, coloured pencil drawings: one sad and one happy. Analyses focused on the types of content the children selected, the literal and metaphoric symbols used and the explanations provided for the drawings. A comparison of the works of both age groups indicated a general progression from a self- centred view of life to a more friendship oriented and, finally, a more world oriented perspective of self and others.
