Abstract:
This paper presents the findings of a small classroom based study focussing on the way art teachers engage students in critically responding to art works. The author draws upon a view expressed by Max Darby that art appreciation can be taught to students by utilising their 'personal' response. It questions the idea that through acquiring the language of art, students will be able to articulate their 'personal' opinions.
