Abstract:
In this paper the author discusses initial findings and considerations of an international cooperative research project conducted by the Art Education Research Group, University of South Australia, and the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, University of British Columbia. The focus of this article is on the work being done in Australia. The project has led the research team to reconsider ideas about the very nature of art itself that are frequently assumed to be self evident but which, in practice, are often ignored or prove not to be as simple or obvious as expected.
